Termite Control and Monitoring

What is a Termite?
Eastern Subterranean Termites are a common wood destroying insect found in the northeastern part of the United States. Termites fulfill an important role in our ecological system by speeding up the natural process of deterioration and help turn the dead wood into new soil. Unfortunately, termites don’t know the difference between a stump in your yard and the wood in your home. Eastern Subterranean Termites live in social colonies, typically found in the soil. While they are generally found foraging underground for fallen wood, or plant debris, they can also enter homes causing extensive damage if left untreated.

Why do I have them?
Termites are a common occurrence in nature, and are constantly in search of additional food sources. Worker termites travel underground looking for fallen trees, decaying wood, plant debris, and other cellulose materials to consume and bring back to the colony. It is not uncommon to find termites in mulch or a nearby wood pile around your home. Improper moisture control, leaf litter, and direct wood-to-soil contact are all prime conditions that can promote termite activity on your property – often times within close proximity to your home. While foraging, worker termites will enter cracks in the foundation of your home, ultimately leading them to the wood within the structure.

Eastern Subterranean termites are native to New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Eastern Subterranean termite symptoms can be seen in your home if: You see swarming termites in your home (this usually occurs in the spring)

You see dead termites. Termite swarms happen very quickly in the springtime.
Since termites eat wood from the inside, you may see Hollowed wood.
Mud tunnels. Termites build elaborate tunneling systems beneath the ground.
Structural weakness which includes a “soft feeling” floor or ceiling.

What is a Termite service?
Residential termite services in Nigeria can be either reactionary or preventative. Since termites often remain undetected, at Orion Pest, we recommend that you use our preventative service since termite infestations can be severe, and unfortunately costly.

At Orion Pest Solutions, we offer three types of service for termites:

1. Sentricon® Always Active

This service combines monitoring and treatment. Sentricon Always Active works through monitoring systems in the ground around your home; however these monitoring stations always contain a small amount of bait to kill any termite colonies that may find their way onto your property. Sentricon stations are monitored using a scanner which connects to a computer and provides accurate results in less time. The service consists of two inspections a year for at least a two year period to make sure that termites have not been active on your property.
2. Active Termite Management:

This service is Orion’s answer to an active termite problem in your home. The service begins with an inspection to determine the extent of the termite infestation you are experiencing. A skilled Orion technician can answer your questions about the termite treatment process and create an individualized plan of attack for treating your home. The active treatment will be followed up with ourTermAware™ monitoring system to make sure that the termites don’t come back.
3. TermAware™

This is a termite monitoring program that is designed to keep termites from initially infesting and damaging your home. After TermAware monitors are installed on your property, skilled technicians will inspect every monitor each spring, summer, and fall and leave you a written inspection report after each visit. In the winter, we will inspect the interior of your home for any signs that termites have made it past the sensors undetected. If we do find termite activity, we will respond immediately with an appropriate treatment. When this service is installed proactively, you will receive coverage for any future termite problems once we have ascertained that there is no pre-existing condition.

What is covered under a Termite service?
Clients who use Orion’s Active Termite Management service will receive treatments at no extra cost if any termites should reappear, and they are eligible for our TermAware™ Certificate of Protection only six months after the initial treatment. This protection is valid as long as the TermAware monitoring program is in effect.

The TermAware Certificate of Protection is also available with proactive TermAware monitoring programs and will take effect as soon as we determine that there are no pre-existing termite issues on your property (generally a period of 4 consecutive warm-weather months with no activity). Homeowners who choose to use Sentricon have coverage for any future termite activity, which will be treated and resolved, but do not have the same damage protection as TermAware customers.

Why should I consider a Termite service?
Termites are an incredibly stressful and common problem for homeowners in Nigeria. Termites won’t destroy your home over night, but they can cause serious damage if left untreated for long periods of time. Having a termite problem normally means spending large sums to treat the problem and repair your home, but proactive termite services can alleviate some of these worries. If you suspect you have termites, or have had them in the past, or you simply don’t want to have to worry about them, you may want to begin one of our treatments.

Is this service unique in the pest industry?
While termite services in general are not unique to Orion Pest Solutions, no other company offers TermAware and the warranty that comes with it.
