What is a Mouse?
A mouse is a small nocturnal rodent that is very well suited to living in houses and other human made structures. Mice are often not seen by homeowners because they only come out at night, and they are usually identified through the damage they cause and the noises they make while out of sight. Their natural diet consists of seeds and grains, but they will eat many different things. Mice tend to nibble on things, making frequent trips to food sources within 25 feet of their nests.

How can I identify a mouse problem?
Since mice are the most active at night, they often go unseen. However, there are several ways that people typically become aware that mice are present.

1) Evidence of mouse droppings left in areas that mice have visited. The mouse droppings resemble dark grains of rice.

2) Damage to food packages is observed. You may notice that there are holes gnawed through packages of food and that the food has been consumed.

3) You may observe mice inside the structure. The two most common species to enter man madestructures include the House Mouse Mus musculus, and the White Footed Mouse, Perimiscousspecies. The House Mouse and the White Footed Mouse are similar in appearance but can be easily distinguished by the color of the hair on the body. The House Mouse is light brown to light gray and uniform in color. The White Footed Mouse is light brown and is white on the underside of the tail, belly, and feet.

Why do I have them?
Mice normally find their way indoors searching for food and in order to keep warm through the winter. Since mice have collapsible bodies, they can get into homes through cracks or holes smaller than a dime.

Why should I be concerned with Mice?
Mice, though small, can cause a lot of damage. They tend to become very costly pests because they cause a lot of food contamination because of their droppings and damage many household items with droppings and urine and by gnawing on them. This can create an especially significant problem when they chew on electrical wires, which can cause appliances to fail and could even cause a fire. Mice also transmit diseases, including the one responsible for food poisoning.

How does Orion Pest get rid of Mice?
Mice can be difficult to control once they have set up a nest in a home. However, they can be controlled with appropriate applications of baits or traps. The traps need to be placed in areas where there is already mouse activity, preferably as near to the center of activity as possible since mice will not venture far from their nests. The traps or baits should be placed along the walls since that is where mice are most likely to travel.
